The weekend at a glance

Emma Robinson

Emma Robinson

Emma is a wine buyer, educator and consultant based in Frome. After studying Biomedical Sciences, she quickly realised she'd rather spend her time talking about wine than science, and hasn't looked back since.

Over the last 15 years she's taught wine qualifications, sold wine to everyone from restaurants to superyachts, and now sources wines from around the world as a buyer. Along the way she's indulged her love of travel, meeting producers and discovering new regions. She has also embarked on the notoriously difficult Master of Wine programme, and hopes one day to be one of only 422 in the world.

In that time she's watched English wine grow from a niche curiosity into one of the most exciting categories in the wine world, and she can't wait to share a few brilliant bottles with you.

Emma's sessions are a £10 supplement, payable on the day.

Sessions

Saturday · 1.30pm

Drink Like a Grown-Up

A relaxed introduction to English wine, where you'll learn to taste like a professional without any of the jargon getting in the way. Through five wines, Emma guides you through simple tasting techniques, demystifies a bit of wine language, and covers the basics of how wine is made. An easy-going way to build confidence while exploring what makes English wine so exciting right now.

Saturday · 6.30pm

Say Cheese: A Proper English Pairing

A relaxed and tasty dive into cheese and wine pairing, featuring a lineup of low-intervention English wines. We'll work our way through some seriously good English cheeses from The Cheese Lord, figuring out what makes certain pairings absolutely sing (and occasionally clash) in the best possible way. Come hungry and curious.

Sunday · 1.30pm

Pinot Unfiltered

Pinot Noir, often nicknamed the “heartbreak grape” for its finicky nature in the vineyard and the care it demands, has become the star behind some of the most exciting English wines being made today. We'll taste our way through a range of styles, from sparkling and rosé to still Pinot Noir, to show just how brilliant, expressive and versatile this grape can be.

Toby Gawler & Cristina Vercesi

Toby Gawler

Toby Gawler is an Australian-born British artist living and working in Margate. After a Fine Arts degree in Painting in Sydney and over a decade immersed in tattooing, he trained in traditional oil painting at London Fine Art Studios, where he now teaches. Working live, his painting explores selfhood, memory and nostalgia, drawing on 20th-century Australian portraiture and masters such as Sargent, Sorolla and Goya.

He has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Society of British Artists, the New English Art Club and the Chelsea Art Society, and has appeared on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year.

Cristina Vercesi

Cristina Vercesi is an Italian-born artist living and working in London, where she trained in the traditional atelier method at London Fine Art Studios and now teaches. Grounded in classical technique but moving beyond academic realism, her work turns to symbolic imagery, atmospheric colour and the inner life of images, informed by ideas from Jungian psychology. She has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Portrait Painters, the Chelsea Art Society, the Society of Women Artists and the Royal Society of British Artists, and is a de Laszlo Scholar.

Sessions

Saturday & Sunday

Live Oil Painting

Toby and Cristina will be painting in oils throughout the weekend, working from life so you can watch a canvas build up close, layer by layer.
